I found this finishing pad called a @stainpad on the @rockler_woodworking website and figured I’d give it a try. I wasn’t sure if I would like it when I got it (thinking “how can this be any better than some paper towel or a ripped up tshirt?”) but wanted to at least give it a try. I must say, I’m really glad I got it! It’s super soft, can be cut to whatever size you want, holds a ton of liquid (I was able to do all sides of all 4 boards without needing to pour more oil and still have plenty left with this little piece, unlike paper towels that tend to dry out pretty quickly), and is produced by a family-owned small business. If you know me well, you know I’m a huge supporter of small businesses. As a bonus, they have some amazing customer service as well. Back to the pad, my explanation seriously isn’t doing justice. I’ve used poly and stain as well and was really impressed. Such a smooth and blotch-free finish! I will definitely be keeping a few of these in my arsenal moving forward. If you know a woodworker and are looking for a nice stocking stuffer them, or want to pick up a gift for yourself, head over to Rockler and pick up a pack! If you spend all that time making your creation look amazing, keep that attention to detail going and finish it with something that will make your life easier as well as produce a better final result. Disclaimer: we live in a world where one can’t simply praise a good product without people assuming they are being paid to say such a thing so I must say, I am not being endorsed or paid by StainPad to say this. It’s a good product from a good company so I’m spreading the good word.
